Raphael remembers listening intently to his father playing the classical guitar to the children at bedtime. During those early years he was driven to reproduce the same exquisite sound.
He studied music at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. There he concentrated on composition and arrangement for the classical guitar under the tutelage of the late Neefa van der Schyff (One of the foremost interpreters of classical guitar music in South Africa). Over the last 25 years he has become a respected teacher, performer and composer of the classical guitar. Besides writing in the traditional guitar style, he enjoys writing musical portraits inspired by interesting people. Raphael currently teaches the classical guitar at Bellville Music Academy, Edgemead High School and The Settlers High School in Cape Town, South Africa.
